Evgeni Malkin Helped Off Ice After Falling Backward Into Boards During Third Period (GIF)

Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin had to be helped off the ice during the third period of Saturday night’s game after hurting his left leg.

Malkin went crashing into the boards while chasing down Detroit’s Luke Glendening in an attempt to break up a two-on-one chance for the Red Wings. The two players made contact near the Pittsburgh net, and the Penguins star lost his balance as he hooked Glendening, leading Malkin to fall backward into the boards.

Malkin’s left leg appeared to take the brunt of the collision, and he couldn’t put any weight on it as his teammates helped him off the ice.

It was the second time Malkin was forced to leave the game Saturday. The 27-year-old made his way to the locker room in the second period after colliding with teammate Robert Bortuzzo and hitting his head on the ice.

Malkin notched his 600th career point in the Penguins’ 4-1 win over the Red Wings, although his injury marred that milestone.
