Shane Vereen Says Doctors Will Decide When Running Back Can Remove Protective Brace From Wrist

FOXBORO, Mass. — In the three weeks Shane Vereen has been back on the field after spending nine weeks on short-term injured reserve, the third-down running back has had some extra protection on his wrist.

Vereen has been wearing a soft black shield on the left wrist he broke Week 1 in Buffalo. Vereen does not wear the brace when walking around the locker room, but he does in games and during practice.

When asked whether he would wear the brace for the rest of the season, Vereen said he would rely on doctors’ advice.

“That’s a doctor’s decision, not mine,” Vereen said.

Vereen said the plan is to wear it for now. Rob Gronkowski has worn a padded brace on his forearm since returning from numerous surgeries. Gronkowski has said the plan is to wear that shield for the rest of the season.

Vereen said his wrist is feeling fine. He does not appear to be limited at all during games, though he’s still listed as a full participant in practice with the injury.

“I feel good,” Vereen said. “I haven’t had any problems with it. I’ve haven’t had any issue with it. So really, not too much thought about it at all.”

Vereen has 21 carries for 76 yards and 21 catches for 162 yards and a touchdowns since returning Week 11 against the Panthers.
