Bill Belichick Smiled Seven Times at Podium This Season, Wall Street Journal Discovers (Video)

Bill Belichick press conferences are usually solemn affairs, with very few moments of comedy sprinkled in. Seven moments of comedy, to be exact.

After an exhaustive analysis of Belichick’s 16 postgame pressers this season, The Wall Street Journal discovered that the New England Patriots coach cracked a smile just seven times.

The 16 media sessions ran for a total of 114 1/2 minutes, meaning Belichick went an average of 16.4 minutes between grins.

Only five games elicited a smile from the notoriously ornery coach — all wins, and all coming at Gillette Stadium. The only victories that enthused him enough to warrant not one, but two smiles? Oct. 27 against the Miami Dolphins and the Dec. 29 regular-season finale against the Buffalo Bills.

WSJ’s findings showed that the Patriots boss never smiled after consecutive games, though — something the team will look to change when the Patriots host the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC divisional playoffs on Saturday.
