The rifle, valued at $2,000 and still in its case, was discovered in the Nissan Rogue when another person rented it hours later on Jan. 4, according to a Broward Sheriff’s Office report that the Sun-Sentinel obtained.
Judith Fleissig, 58, of Rochester, N.Y., discovered the rifle and turned it over to the police after contacting the rental car company.
“Though dangerous if it would have landed in the wrong hands, it’s not criminal,” sheriff’s spokeswoman Keyla Concepción said.
According to the report, the rifle is registered in Ryan’s name (the couple apparently enjoy shooting guns together) and the couple “immediately” called the rental car company to let them know they left something in the vehicle, but they would not specify what it was.
Ryan and Lauren Tannehill view this as a “personal matter,” a Dolphins spokesperson said Wednesday.
