Niners-Packers Playoff Game Expected to Be One of NFL’s Coldest; Below-Freezing Temperatures Predicted

The weather for Sunday’s NFC wild-card matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers will do nothing to help the home team in its efforts to sell out the game.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a high of 2 degrees in Green Bay, with an expected low of minus-18 degrees. The wind chill also could drop to 30 below.

In danger of facing a local television blackout, the Packers were granted an extension to sell the 3,000 tickets they have remaining. While it seems impossible to imagine empty seats at Lambeau Field, the temperatures expected at game time might lend some insight as to why they’ve had some trouble unloading the tickets.

The 1967 Ice Bowl between the Packers and Dallas Cowboys is the coldest game in NFL history as temperatures fell to minus-15 degrees at Lambeau.
