Report: Rob Gronkowski to Have ACL Surgery on Thursday; MCL Has Healed

A month after tearing his ACL and MCL, New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is set to go under the knife.

Gronkowski is having surgery on his ACL on Thursday, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The tight end suffered the injuries to his right knee on Dec. 8 when Cleveland Browns safety T.J. Ward went low and took out Gronkowski’s legs after a 21-yard reception.

Since Gronkowski is going in for surgery, that means his MCL is healed, as noted by NFL Network’s Albert Breer. Dr. James Andrews will perform the surgery in Pensacola, Fla.

Gronkowski’s target is to be back by training camp in July, according to Breer. He missed training camp in 2013 while recovering from forearm and back injuries.

Gronkowski had 39 receptions for 592 yards and four touchdowns in just seven games.
