Andrew Miller, Red Sox Avoid Arbitration With One-Year Deal

The Boston Red Sox agreed to terms with left-handed pitcher Andrew Miller on a one-year, non-guaranteed contract for the 2014 season, thus avoiding salary arbitration, the team announced Saturday night.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Miller had a career year in 2013, going 1-2 with a 2.64 ERA and a strikeout rate of 14.1 per nine innings, before a foot injury in July ended his season. The 28-year-old is entering his fourth year with the Red Sox. He has amassed a 4.24 ERA and 149 strikeouts in 136 innings as a member of the team.
