Carl Crawford has given us the first basepath blunder of the 2014 baseball season.
The Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder was trucking into second base during a spring training game against the Arizona Diamondbacks when he dove headfirst in what should have been a routine slide. Crawford started that slide way, way too early, though, smacking his face down on the dirt before skidding into the base.
The fact that he was safe by a mile should cushion the blow a bit for Crawford, but his poor form will likely attract a fair amount of locker-room chirping from his Dodgers teammates.
Check it out in the video below, with a hat tip to SB Nation.
