Jaromir Jagr On Olympic Success: ‘I Don’t Get Old, Man’

Age is just a number for Jaromir Jagr.

The soon-to-be 42-year-old winger (his birthday is on Saturday) is playing like a 25-year-old in the 2014 Winter Olympics, tying his personal best with two goals in his first two games for the Czech Republic.

To questions of how he keeps up such high production in this, his fifth Olympic Games, Jagr had a simple answer.

“I don’t get old, man,” he said Friday, via Sportsnet. “I am alive.”

Oh, that’s it.

Jagr’s inspired play isn’t just padding his own his stat line, though. It’s also creating space for his younger, quicker teammates, including former Boston Bruins teammate David Krejci.

“He’s doing a pretty good job at sucking two defensemen on him,” Krejci said. “Somebody’s going to get open. He’s still got that strength, he’s got power, he’s really strong in the corners.

“It’s good to see him playing like that.”

The Czechs split their first two games in Sochi, falling to Sweden on Thursday and defeating Latvia on Friday. They’ll conclude preliminary-round play Sunday against Switzerland.
