Joe Namath Rocks Sweet Fur Coat, Nearly Botches Super Bowl Coin Toss (GIF)

Joe Namath made headlines at the Super Bowl before, and he did it again on Sunday.

Namath, who led the New York Jets to their first Super Bowl win in 1969, was invited to do the honorary coin toss on the field at Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium. And, in classic Namath style, he stole the show.

Referree Terry McAuley handed Namath, who was sporting one of his classic fur coats, the honorary Super Bowl coin while the captains for the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks stood at midfield awaiting the toss. But before McAuley could ask the visitor Seahawks whether they wanted heads or tails, Namath jumped the gun and tossed the coin into the air. McAuley fortunately saw the flip coming and was able to track down the coin like a centerfielder and catch it before it hit the ground.

Ultimately, the Seahawks called tails and won the toss, but Namath was the real winner.
