Marc-Andre Fleury’s Pittsburgh Steelers Mask Is Thing Of Beauty (Photo)

Henrik Lundqvist went with a baseball-inspired goalie mask for the New York Rangers’ games at Yankee Stadium, so it’s only fair that one of the goalies taking the ice this weekend at Soldier Field would opt for a football theme.

That goalie would be Marc-Andre Fleury of the Pittsburgh Penguins, and his Steelers helmet replica is one of the coolest masks in the NHL this season.

What really makes Fleury’s mask a winner is the attention to detail by artist Stephane Bergeron, who also designed Chicago Blackhawks netminder Corey Crawford’s headgear for the game. The iconic black-and-yellow paint scheme is obvious, but the mask also nails the more subtle aspects, like the nose bumper, the front number and the fact that the Penguins logo only appears on one side.

If the hockey gods are kind, we’ll see both Fleury and Chicago’s Antti Raanta — whose Ed Belfour tribute mask is a gem in its own right — between the pipes on Saturday.
