Marcus Smart Suspended Three Games; Texas Tech Fan Denies Using Racial Slur

Self-proclaimed Texas Tech “super fan” Jeff Orr denied yelling racist slurs at Oklahoma State player Marcus Smart on Saturday, when Smart pushed Orr in the final seconds of a game.

Orr admitted to using an inappropriate phrase, but he insists it was not racist.

“I regret calling Mr. Smart a ‘piece of crap,’ but I want to make it known that I did not use a racial slur of any kind,” Orr said in a statement. “Additionally, I would like to offer my apologies to Texas Tech fans that have been embarrassed by the attention this incident has created.”

Orr said he would not attend any more games this season as a self-inflicted punishment, according to CBS Sports.

Smart has been suspended three games. He apologized at a press conference Sunday.

“This is not how I [conduct] myself,” Smart said. “It’s a lesson I’ll have to learn from. … I feel like I let my teammates down.”

Smart will return from his suspension Feb. 22 against Texas Tech.
