Olympic Hockey: Patrick Kane Misses Two Penalty Shots Against Tuukka Rask (GIFs)

Patrick Kane is one of the most highly skilled forwards in the NHL and among the last players opposing goaltenders want to face in the shootout or on a penalty shot.

In the United States’ bronze medal game against Finland on Saturday, Kane earned two penalty shots and surprisingly missed them both.

In the first period, Kane tried to sneak a backhand shot past Tuukka Rask, but the Finnish goaltender got his pad to the left post.

Kane beat Rask glove side on his second penalty shot attempt in the second period, but the puck hit the right post. It was a golden chance to cut into Finland’s 2-0 lead, but the United States didn’t get any lucky bounces the entire game.

Kane has struggled in the shootout this season with one goal on 11 tries for the Chicago Blackhawks. In fact, his only shootout goal was against Rask when the Blackhawks played the Boston Bruins in January. Kane finished the Olympic tournament without scoring a goal.

Rask made 26 saves to shut out the United States and help Finland claim its second straight bronze medal.
