With his Toronto Maple Leafs sleepwalking through an eventual 4-1 loss to the Florida Panthers, Phil Kessel tried hard to wake himself up — very, very hard.
TV cameras spotted Kessel on the Leafs’ bench repeatedly sniffing smelling salts — which, you know, don’t smell particularly good.
Bold strategy, Phil, but it didn’t really work out for you. The Maple Leafs’ top scorer and soon-to-be Team USA winger failed to record a point against the hapless Panthers, just his second pointless effort in Toronto’s last 13 games.
