Vladimir Putin Visits U.S. Winter Olympics Base For Wine And Brownies

The Americans hosted a special guest Friday when Vladimir Putin stopped by the U.S. Olympic Headquarters in Sochi for a toast and some sweets.

The Russian president put aside any political tension for the reception, which was put together quickly after Putin announced his desire to visit Thursday.

Putin was joined by United States Olympic Committee officials Scott Blackmun and Larry Probst. The trio ate brownies and toasted their wine while sitting on a couch in the courtyard and talking about sports.

Putin approved of the spread, turning to a reporter and saying, “The wine is good,” according to USA Today.

The meeting had heightened importance in the aftermath of President Barack Obama’s decision to send three openly gay athletes to lead the U.S. Olympic delegation in Russia, where Putin supports anti-gay propaganda law.
