Antonio Cromartie Released By Jets, Could Be Patriots Free Agent Option

Another top cornerback hit the NFL free agent market on Sunday.

The New York Jets released Antonio Cromartie, immediately making the cornerback a free agent. The Jets saved $9.5 million in salary cap room by cutting Cromartie.

Cromartie could be a discount option for a team that can’t afford top free agent cornerback Aqib Talib. Cromartie is two years older than Talib, but they’re similar in size and the former Jet will come much cheaper.

The New England Patriots could look to sign either Cromartie or Dominique-Rodgers-Cromartie if Talib signs elsewhere. Both players have similar skill sets as Talib.

Cromartie, who turns 30 in April, started his career with the San Diego Chargers before signing with the Jets in 2010.
