Boston University Tops Boston College To Win Third Straight Women’s Hockey East Title

The Boston University women’s hockey team topped Boston College 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center to capture its third straight Hockey East championship.

Boston College held a 2-1 lead going into the third period, but the Terriers tied things up early in the final frame when senior captain Louise Warren registered a power-play goal. Freshman Maddie Elia then notched the game-winner at the 8:12 mark of the third to send the Terriers to the NCAA tournament for the fifth straight year.

Boston College will advance to the national tournament as well, with an at-large bid.

BU’s Kerrin Sperry, who was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player for the second-straight year, made 40 saves in the come-from-behind win, while BC’s Corinne Boyles recorded 31 saves in the loss.

In a rematch of the 2013 title game, BU will face Minnesota in the first round of the NCAA tournament Saturday, March 15.
