Corey Crawford’s Pads Go Missing, Continuing Goalie’s Gear Woes

This is why Corey Crawford can’t have nice things.

Two days after Crawford’s goalie mask failed to arrive before the Chicago Blackhawks’ Soldier Field tilt (unfortunately, he did not borrow teammate Antti Raanta’s awesome Eddie Belfour tribute mask for the game), the Hawks netminder’s everyday goalie pads went missing.

Crawford wore his black Stadium Series pads at Monday’s practice, and he tried to explain his bizarre situation when speaking with reporters afterward.

“This is crazy,” he said, via the Chicago Tribune. “I’ve never seen this before. I’ve never heard of this before. It’s crazy, man. The trainers are all stunned that it happened. Honestly, I told every guy, and some of the guys didn’t believe it happened.

“Those are the ones I wear all the time — gone. I was speechless.”

The Blackhawks are back in action Tuesday night against the Colorado Avalanche, giving Crawford only a limited window to locate his lost gear. The new pads didn’t hinder the goalie’s performance on Saturday, though, as he allowed just a third-period goal in a 5-1, snow-covered blowout of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
