But are they bad enough that a 52-year-old man with no major organized basketball experience could make the team?
Kobe Bryant says yes.
On a radio appearance Wednesday morning, Bryant had a surprisingly serious tone when he said President Barack Obama “could, actually” make this season’s Lakers roster. Host Dan Patrick asked the question facetiously, but Bryant didn’t seem to be joking around.
“I’m not dissing the current roster that we have,” Bryant said. “It’s more a sign of respect of the skill that the president possesses.”
We’ll give Bryant this much: As a lefty, Obama would have an advantage. Left-handed guards always seem to give opponents trouble. As for his age, his presumable lack of athleticism and, er, this, we think Bryant might be giving the president a bit too much credit.
