lebron jamesAfter just one NBA appearance, LeBron James’ black face mask is retiring from the game.

James wore a black carbon-fiber mask to protect his broken nose during the Miami Heat’s  win over the New York Knicks Thursday. Anything LeBron-related is going to receive media attention, and the black mask was no exception. Social media has since exploded with comparisons of the masked James to superheroes like Batman and Zorro.

In the aftermath of the media hype, the NBA has asked James to switch out his black mask for a clear version for Saturday’s game against the Orlando Magic.

After some back and forth, it seems James and the league have reached a compromise.

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra told ESPN Saturday morning that James will have his choice of a variety of league-approved masks to wear for the next several weeks until his nose is healed.

Fans will have to stay tuned to see what style James selects.
