Ohio State Hockey Championship Game Ends In Tie After Seven Overtimes

After four and a half hours of hockey and seven overtimes, the Ohio state hockey championship game between the Sylvania Northview Wildcats and Saint Ignatius Wildcats ended with two champions being crowned.

The two schools were named co-state champions after failing to break a 1-1 tie after seven overtime periods. With the two coaches agreeing to share the title, Ohio High School Athletic Association commissioner Dan Ross announced the decision to call the game prior to what would have been the eighth overtime period, citing player safety as the primary reason.

The OHSAA also noted that shootouts are not allowed, per a national rule.

Unsurprisingly, the game is now the longest one in Ohio championship history, but the historic feat likely won’t make the players feel any better about the controversial ending.
