Wide receiver Brandon LaFell’s contract with the New England Patriots is backloaded to give his new team some salary-cap relief in 2014.
LaFell’s three-year contract with the Patriots is worth $9 million, ESPN.com reported. The deal includes $3 million in guaranteed money and another $1 million available in per-game roster bonuses.
LaFell has a $2 million salary-cap hit in 2014, $3.2 million in 2015 and $3.8 million in 2016. He will earn $12,500 for every game he’s active in 2014 and $25,000 for every game he’s active in 2015 and 2016.
LaFell spent the first four years of his career with the Carolina Panthers. He caught 49 passes for 627 yards with five touchdowns in 2013.
