Report: Darrelle Revis Wants To Play For New England Patriots

The New England Patriots lost Aqib Talib to the Denver Broncos on Tuesday, reopening the possibility of them acquiring cornerback Darrelle Revis.

Revis wants to play for the Patriots, CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reports. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are looking to trade Revis, who has a large contract, but are expected to release the cornerback by 4 p.m. Wednesday if a deal can’t be made. Revis has a roster bonus due at that time.

Revis can prove how much he wants — or “would love” — to play for the Patriots by agreeing to a pay cut before a trade or by signing with the Patriots in free agency despite New England not offering the highest salary.

Revis’ current contract pays him $16 million annually over the next five years. None of that money is guaranteed, so the Buccaneers, or any team that would trade for him, can release Revis without penalty.

Revis also reportedly “would love” to play for Rex Ryan and the New York Jets again. So maybe any place looks great after a year in Tampa Bay.
