Matt Cassel is reportedly going to remain a Minnesota Viking, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Rapoport took to Twitter to describe the reported deal.

CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora also took to Twitter to report on some of the deal’s further details.

Cassel appeared in nine games for the Vikings last season after beginning the season as a backup. But inconsistent play by Christian Ponder and Josh Freeman led to the opportunity for Cassel to take over the starting quarterback position.

While the starting signal-caller in Minnesota is still not set in stone, Cassel’s 3-3 record, 11 touchdowns and 1,807 passing yards as the team’s starter apparently warranted his re-signing.
