Dustin Pedroia Moves To Red Sox’s Leadoff Spot; Grady Sizemore Rests

Grady Sizemore drilled an impressive three-run homer in the Boston Red Sox’s 4-2 victory over the New York Yankees on Friday night, but he’s absent from Saturday’s lineup, with Mike Carp taking over left field and batting fifth in the 1:05 p.m. game at Yankee Stadium.

The biggest change comes at the top, where Dustin Pedroia will bat leadoff for the first time this season. The second baseman is hitting .240 and has driven in one run in the first 11 games.

Daniel Nava will follow Pedroia in the lineup and replace Jonny Gomes in right field. Jonathan Herrera continues to see time at third base, filling in for the injured Will Middlebrooks and batting eighth in the order.

Jackie Bradley Jr. rounds out the lineup, playing center field and batting ninth.

Red Sox right-hander John Lackey, who’s 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA this season, will face off with Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda (1-1, 2.92 ERA). Derek Jeter won’t play for the Yankees, giving way to rookie shortstop Dean Anna the day after a night game.
