Ex-Patriots Team Doctor Thomas Gill Ousted From Role At MGH In August

The New England Patriots said in a statement released Thursday that former team doctor Thomas Gill had stepped down as chief of sports medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, but they didn’t say when.

Gill was “forced from his job after a bitter turf war” in August, The Boston Globe’s Liz Kowalczyk reported Saturday. The Patriots have always had the chief of sports medicine at MGH serve as team medical director. Gill will be replaced by his successor at MGH, Dr. Matt Provencher, during the 2014 season.

MGH said in a motion filed in US District Court that Gill was ousted from his role in 2013 after he and a colleague competed “over patients, operating room time, and professional sports teams” in 2011 and 2012.
