BOSTON — The benches cleared in the seventh inning of Saturday’s Red Sox-Orioles game at Fenway Park.

Red Sox catcher David Ross and Orioles starter Bud Norris were at the center of the incident, which occurred when Ross attempted to drop down a sacrifice bunt following a leadoff walk by Mike Carp. No punches were thrown, and each team quickly returned to its respective dugout after a brief gathering near home plate.

Norris threw a couple of pitches up and in while Ross tried to bunt. The pitches just missed hitting Ross in the head, which Ross didn’t appear to be too happy about. Ross and Norris exchanged words, at which point Orioles catcher Matt Wieters intervened and the benches cleared.

Ross ended up striking out for the first out of the bottom of the seventh inning. Brock Holt turned the tide in Boston’s favor, however, by delivering an RBI triple into the right-center field gap.
