Xander Bogaerts Owns Up To Game-Ending Error In Red Sox’s Loss (Video)

The Boston Red Sox’s visit to the Windy City ended in disappointing fashion Tuesday night.

Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts’ ninth-inning throwing error allowed the winning run to score, as the Chicago White Sox rallied for a 2-1 victory.

The game was most notable for its frigid temperatures, which dipped into the low 30s as the contest (which took more than three-and-a-half hours to complete) progressed. Bogaerts, a native of Aruba, acknowledged the weather was less than ideal for baseball, but he didn’t blame the cold for his mistake.

“There’s no excuse for that play. It’s a ball I should have thrown right in the chest to (first baseman Mike Carp),” the 21-year-old told reporters after the game, via The Boston Globe. “You can use it in two ways: I can be down and keep going down from there or I can use it as a turning point. Something to move on from and turn the season around.”

It was the second error in 31 major league games for Bogaerts, with the other coming in a 6-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers in the Red Sox’s home opener.
