BC officially announced Thursday the hiring of new men’s basketball head coach Jim Christian, who previously held the same position at Ohio University.
“Jim sincerely cares about his student-athletes and will be a catalyst for their development as players, scholars, servers (and) leaders,” BC athletic director Brad Bates said in a statement.
Christian posted a 49-21 record in two years at Ohio, leading the Bobcats to the championship game of the Mid-American Conference in 2012-13. He previously held head-coaching jobs at Kent State — where he won MAC coach of the year honors in 2002 and 2008 — and TCU.
A native of Bethpage, N.Y., Christian played his college ball in New England, first at Boston University and later at Rhode Island, in the 1980s.
Boston College went 8-24 overall and 4-14 in the Atlantic Coast Conference this season under former head coach Steve Donahue, who was fired in March. The Eagles have not reached the NCAA tournament since 2009.
