Boston Globe Wins Pulitzer Prize For Boston Marathon Bombing Coverage

The Boston Globe was awarded a 2014 Pulitzer Prize for its breaking news coverage of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.

The Globe won the Breaking News Reporting award “for its exhaustive and empathetic coverage of the Boston Marathon bombings and the ensuing manhunt that enveloped the city, using photography and a range of digital tools to capture the full impact of the tragedy,” according to Pulitzer.org.

The citation for the award is “for a distinguished example of local reporting of breaking news that, as quickly as possible, captures events accurately as they occur, and, as time passes, illuminates, provides context and expands upon the initial coverage.”

The Boston Marathon attack killed three people and wounded more than 260 others near the race’s finish line. The one-year anniversary of the bombing is Tuesday.

It’s the Globe’s 23rd overall Pulitzer Prize but its first for breaking news coverage.
