Johan Santana To Miss Remainder Of 2014 Season With Torn Achilles

Two-time Cy Young Award winner Johan Santana was on track to join the Baltimore Orioles next month.

That was before he went to retrieve a batted ball during an extended spring training assignment on Friday.

Santana suffered a torn left Achilles tendon on the play and will miss the rest of the 2014 season, as confirmed by Orioles general manager Dan Duquette.

The 35-year-old’s career could be in trouble given the setback, though his agent seems to think Santana will eventually return to the field.

Santana currently has a 139-78 career record with a 3.20 ERA. The southpaw has appeared in four All-Star games and hurled the first no-hitter in New York Mets history back on June 1, 2012.
