New England Patriots Sign Second-Round Pick QB Jimmy Garoppolo

The New England Patriots have their future backup quarterback locked up for four years.

The Patriots announced they signed second-round draft pick Jimmy Garoppolo on Monday. Garoppolo signed a four-year deal worth $3.3 million with an $853,744 signing bonus, The Boston Globe’s Ben Volin reported.

The Patriots selected Garoppolo No. 62 overall in the 2014 NFL draft out of Eastern Illinois. Garoppolo has been able to compete in rookie minicamp and organized team activities despite being unsigned because the practice sessions are non-contact.

Garoppolo marks the eighth draft pick the Patriots have signed, leaving first-round pick Dominique Easley as the only unsigned rookie.
