Washington State Linebacker Arrested For Pointing Pellet Gun At Student

Washington State linebacker Ivan McLennan was arrested Sunday and cited for a gross misdemeanor after allegedly pointing an Airsoft pellet gun at a fellow Wazzu student.

McLennan’s arrest — for “unlawful handling of weapons capable of producing bodily harm” — came after Pullman, Wash., police received a call about a man “brandishing a firearm” in a campus parking lot. This, apparently, was not McLennan’s first offense.

“He had been contacted about three weeks ago by us, the Pullman Police Department, and warned for this exact same thing,” Pullman police commander Chris Tennant told The Spokane-Review. “That didn’t apparently stop his activity so he was given a criminal citation.”

Students on the Washington State campus, Tennant said, were especially on edge in the wake of the shooting at Seattle Pacific University earlier this month that killed one student and injured two.

“To put it in their frame of mind, this is right after the news of the shooting over at the campus in Seattle, and apparently the guy was thinking about coming to WSU,” Tennant said. “So that’s their mindset. They were quite fearful.”

McLennan, a 6-foot-4, 244-pound junior, redshirted last season after transferring from El Camino Junior College. He has yet to play a game for the Cougars.
