Derek Jeter Fakes Out Jason Kipnis, Turns Foul Ball Into Double Play (Video)

Derek Jeter still has a few tricks up his sleeve.

The New York Yankees’ captain has struggled at the plate thus far in his farewell campaign, but a savvy defensive move on his part helped the Yankees put away the Cleveland Indians on Monday.

Trailing by two runs late in the game, the Indians attempted a hit-and-run, with Jason Kipnis taking off for second base on a 1-0 count to Asdrubal Cabrera. Cabrera popped the ball up in foul territory, but Kipnis — biting on a fake by Jeter — kept on trucking to second base, realizing far too late that he had run himself straight into an inning-ending double play.

Kipnis’ lack of awareness proved crucial, as the twin killing squashed a potential eighth-inning rally in a game the Tribe went on to lose 5-3.
