Patriots Release Rookie Wide Receivers Reese Wiggins, Jeremy Johnson

The New England Patriots are a week away from training camp and now have three open spots on their 90-man roster

The Patriots announced they released rookie wide receivers Jeremy Johnson and Reese Wiggins on Thursday. Johnson signed with the Patriots as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Southern Methodist on June 12.

The Patriots signed Wiggins on May 27 as an undrafted free agent out of East Carolina. He participated in Patriots organized team activities and minicamp.

The Patriots announced on Wednesday that defensive tackle Armond Armstead retired due to health issues. The team will look to fill their three open roster spots before training camp opens on July 24.

Tight ends Dustin Keller and Jermichael Finley are still available as free agents. The team has depth needs at tight end, wide receiver, safety and defensive end.
