Report: Rockets Could Target Rajon Rondo Trade After Failing To Sign Stars

Despite failing to secure Chris Bosh’s services, the Houston Rockets are not finished trying to make moves this summer.

With Bosh spurning Houston to re-sign with the Miami Heat, the Rockets are expected to turn their attention to Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo, ESPN.com’s Marc Stein reported Monday. It is unclear what, if any, assets the Rockets have that might interest the Celtics, but Rondo has long been coveted by Houston.

The Rockets went all-in on acquiring a maximum-contract free agent like Bosh or Carmelo Anthony. They shipped out Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin to the New Orleans Pelicans and the Los Angeles Lakers, respectively, and chose not to match Chandler Parsons’ offer sheet from the Dallas Mavericks. They also are thin on meaningful draft picks to deal.

Still, a dearth of attractive trade chips is not preventing the Rockets from shooting for the stars. (Rockets? Stars? Get it?) They also are interested in re-entering the Kevin Love sweepstakes, according to Stein.

Love, like Rondo, is signed through the end of next season, although he can opt-in for an extra season next summer.
