Cary Williams Injures Hamstring On Tom Brady Pick-Six, Leaves Game (GIF)

FOXBORO, Mass. — It didn’t take long for the New England Patriots’ tight end problems to bite them in the backside Friday night.

On the first drive of their preseason matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles, a miscommunication between quarterback Tom Brady and recently signed tight end Steve Maneri resulted in Brady firing a pass straight to Eagles cornerback Cary Williams, who took it back 77 yards for a touchdown.

The pick-six, which gave Philadelphia an early 7-0 lead, was Williams’ final play of the night, however. The Eagles announced that the corner suffered a hamstring injury during the run-back and would not return.

Maneri was the Patriots’ only healthy tight end entering the game, with fullback James Develin expected to pick up the slack at the position.
