Jets Rookies Play Dizzy Bat At Training Camp; Rex Ryan Explains (GIF)

Rookies have a hard enough time getting oriented during the first weeks of NFL training camp.

After Sunday’s practice, though, first-year players on the New York Jets found it almost impossible to gain their bearings.

That’s because Jets head coach Rex Ryan decided to spice things up by making his rookies participate in a game usually reserved for lawn parties — dizzy bat.

That sure looks like fun (you can watch the full video here).

Making your players spin around in circles doesn’t seem like the most productive use of practice time, but Ryan, as he always does, had an explanation.

“Just trying to get the energy level boosted up,” Ryan said after practice, via NJ.com. “Get guys smiling, laughing and feeling good. Now you are ready to work. It’s just like in the classroom: You want to get people to smile; you get more out of them when they are attentive. I thought we would break it up just a little bit and start with that drill.”

The Jets rookies circled their bats quite easily, but circling the wagons in 2014 and knocking the New England Patriots off the top of the AFC East might prove a little more difficult for Gang Green.
