After being traded in a blockbuster deal for Yoenis Cespedes during Thursday’s MLB trade deadline, Jon Lester made his debut as a member of the Oakland Athletics on Saturday.
Lester got the win, but he needed some big help from another newly-acquired teammate along the way.
Sam Fuld, also playing in his first game since being traded, helped save a run in the fourth inning with an incredible, acrobatic throw from center field that nailed Kansas City Royals outfielder Alex Gordon at the plate.
Fuld, who was acquired from the Minnesota Twins on deadline day for Tommy Milone, caught the ball, then put his whole body into the laser throw.

Lester went 6 2/3 innings in Oakland’s 8-3 victory, giving up nine hits, three runs and striking out three for his 11th win of the season.
You can bet he’s grateful of Fuld’s throw, as the Royals would have taken a 2-0 lead if Gordon managed to score on Mike Moustakas’ single.
