Brandon Workman Recalled By Red Sox, Will Be Active Wednesday vs. Yankees

Brandon Workman is back after a brief stay down on the farm.

The Boston Red Sox recalled the big right-hander Wednesday, 10 days after optioning him to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Workman, who will be available to pitch Wednesday night against the New York Yankees, was rocked in his most recent major league start, allowing seven runs and 10 hits in just 3 1/3 innings of an Aug. 23 loss to the Seattle Mariners.

The 26-year-old has taken the loss in his previous eight appearances and allowed four or more runs in six of his last seven starts. He made one start in his most recent stint with the PawSox, earning the win by scattering three hits and one run over 6 2/3 innings.

With Major League Baseball rosters expanded from 25 to 40 players in September, the Red Sox weren’t required to make a corresponding roster move.
