The St. Louis Rams cut defensive end Michael Sam at the NFL’s 53-man roster deadline Saturday, but he might find a new home soon.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that the Dallas Cowboys are “doing research” into the plan of signing Sam, the first openly gay player to be drafted in the NFL, to their practice squad.

Sam had three sacks and 11 combined tackles for the Rams during the preseason, but St. Louis has a deep defensive line. Had Sam made the team, he likely wouldn’t have seen the field all season. The Cowboys’ D-line, on the other hand, isn’t 100 percent healthy.
