Report: Patriots Cut Defensive Tackles Kelcy Quarles, Ben Gaston

FOXBORO, Mass. — Kelcy Quarles and Ben Gaston lasted just four days with the New England Patriots.

The two defensive tackles, claimed off waivers Sunday, were waived by the Patriots on Wednesday, a source told ESPN’s Field Yates. Quarles came from the New York Giants, and Gaston came from the Arizona Cardinals.

The Patriots acquired Quarles and Gaston to boost the team’s depth at defensive tackle while Sealver Siliga, Chris Jones and Dominique Easley were recovering from injuries. That the two rookies were released is a good sign for Siliga, Jones and Easley’s health.

The Patriots also released long snapper Charley Hughlett from the practice squad, ESPN.com’s Mike Reiss reported.

The Patriots have two open roster spots and one practice squad vacancy. They’ll need to add a long snapper before Sunday’s season opener against the Miami Dolphins.
