Rob Gronkowski Says He’ll Play In Week 1 Vs. Dolphins: ‘I’m Gonna Go’

Rob Gronkowski ended all the speculation surrounding his Week 1 status with six simple words.

“Yup, I am. I’m gonna go.”

That was the New England Patriots tight end’s response to whether he had the green light to participate in his team’s season opener against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.

“Super excited,” Gronk added when asked how he felt about the prospect of returning to the field. “Just seeing my teammates grinding all week, to go back out there with them, get in the huddle, break the huddle with them… It’s gonna be an honor to get back out there with my teammates.”

Gronkowski had been slowly progressing throughout training camp to recover from the torn ACL that ended his season last December. Gronkowski did not play in any of the Patriots’ four preseason games, but he advanced to participating in full contact drills by the third week of the preseason.

While Gronk has confirmed he’ll be back in pads at Sun Life Stadium, don’t expect to see a ton of the big tight end on Sunday.

Still, for Patriots fans concerned about the status of Gronkowski’s long recovery process, his own admission that he’s ready to go is definitely a welcomed sign.
