Adrian PetersonAdrian Peterson’s future in the NFL is up in the air as the team and the league continue to uncover details about the allegations against the Minnesota Vikings running back.

Peterson was deactivated for Sunday’s home game against the New England Patriots in the wake of his indictment on charges of reckless or negligent injury of a child, which was a decision general manager Rick Spielman told ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio was in the “best interests” of everyone.

“Friday night was the first we heard of the formal allegations against Adrian Peterson, and we decided, as an organization, that to deactivate him this weekend was in the best interests of everybody concerned,” Spielman told Paolantonio.

But Peterson’s absence could be longer, with a suspension or even release coming in the next few days, as Spielman said the organization is considering all options. But before the team’s brass makes a decision, the Vikings want to ensure they have all of the necessary information.

“As an organization we are still in the process of gathering information, and at the end of the weekend we will discuss what we will do going forward. You don’t want to make any knee-jerk reactions. All options are on the table. You can’t take any options off the table because we’re still gathering information.”

The NFL is reviewing Peterson’s case under the league’s personal conduct policy, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy confirmed to NFL Media.
