Brad Stevens Hoping To ‘Diversify’ Celtics’ Preseason Schedule In Future

Preseason competition in any sport can get a little stale. Brad Stevens is looking to spice his up.

The Boston Celtics head coach said Friday that he would like to “diversify” his team’s preseason slate in the future, according to The Boston Globe’s Gary Washburn.

All of the Celtics’ eight exhibition games this season come against Atlantic Division opponents. Last season — Stevens’ first in Boston — seven of their eight were division contests, the only outlier being a date with the Minnesota Timberwolves in Montreal.

Stevens also told reporters that he would like to expand his team’s number of preseason opponents from the current four to “at least six,” per the Celtics.

The coach has stated multiple times since the team began training camp that he is isn’t crazy about the schedule of this preseason, which has the Celtics beginning with four games in a six-day span. They’ll play the third of those four Friday night against the defending division champion Raptors in Toronto.
