Illinois To Debut ‘Gray Ghost’ Uniforms During Homecoming Game (Photos)

Illinois will honor arguably the best college football player of all time when it takes the field later this month.

The Fighting Illini will debut their “Gray Ghost” uniforms during their Oct. 25 homecoming game against Minnesota to represent Harold “Red” Grange, whom famed sports writer Grantland Rice called “Gray Ghost” after a legendary performance against Michigan.

This is the 90th anniversary of Grange’s historic homecoming game against the Wolverines. He scored four touchdowns and accumulated 262 yards within the first 12 minutes. As if that weren’t enough, he ran for a fifth touchdown and threw for a sixth later on, handing Michigan its first loss in two years.
