Jeff Green Sits Out Celtics Practice With Calf Strain, Might Not Play Vs. Knicks

WALTHAM, Mass. — Jeff Green was not on the court for the Boston Celtics at practice Tuesday, and he could be absent a while longer.

Green is recovering from a calf strain that held him out of Monday’s preseason-opening win over the Philadelphia 76ers.

Head coach Brad Stevens said the forward wouldn’t participate in Tuesday’s practice session, and that his status still is uncertain for Wednesday’s preseason game against the New York Knicks. Stevens said he expects to make that decision Wednesday morning.

Green suffered the injury during the Celtics’ intrasquad scrimmage Friday. Evan Turner started in his place against the Sixers and performed well, finishing with 15 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in Boston’s 98-78 win.

Green was one of only two players, along with Brandon Bass, to play in all 82 games with the Celtics last season. He has yet to miss a regular-season game since sitting out the entire 2011-12 season while recovering from heart surgery.
