Carolina Panthers wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin was expecting more football to be played Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The rookie was very caught off guard when the game was called a 37-37 tie after a missed field goal by Bengals kicker Mike Nugent in overtime.
“I didn’t know you could tie in the NFL,” Benjamin told the Charlotte Observer. “I was like, what? I was confused. They had to explain what was going on. In a way, it still kind of felt like a loss.”
The 23-year-old isn’t the first player to learn about the possibility of tying in the NFL. In fact, he isn’t even the first player to learn after tying against the Bengals. Former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb tied against Cincinnati in 2008 and was just as surprised.
Benjamin — who’s enjoying a stellar rookie season — had seven receptions for 49 yards and a touchdown on the day.
