Patriots Play Coy When Asked About Darrelle Revis Covering Sammy Watkins

FOXBORO, Mass. — Buffalo Bills rookie wide receiver Sammy Watkins hasn’t been around the AFC East long enough to know how the New England Patriots operate.

Watkins said Wednesday that he “found out” that Revis will be covering him on Sunday when the Bills and Patriots meet. Unless Buffalo has spies in Gillette Stadium, Watkins might have been fed false information.

“I don’t know what he’s heard,” Patriots safety Devin McCourty said Friday in the locker room. “For us, every week it feels like, not a different defense, but we got a different game plan — something we need to do to stop this guy or stop that guy. Like always, our gameplan, and what we do defensively to contain can change throughout the game. I don’t know. Maybe he has a good source.”

Revis shadowed Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Greg Jennings and Cincinnati Bengals All-Pro A.J. Green, but it remains to be seen if Watkins, who has 24 catches for 284 yards with two touchdowns in his first season, will garner the same respect.

“I don’t know what he heard, or what he’s been told,” Revis said Friday. “It really don’t matter.”

So, straight from the horse’s mouth, will Revis cover Watkins?

“I can’t tell you the game plan,” Revis said laughing.

If Revis covers Watkins, the Bills wideout might have a second career in reporting.
