Rajon Rondo Participates In Light Contact Drills At Celtics Practice

BOSTON — An opening-night return is looking more and more likely for Rajon Rondo.

Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens said before Wednesday’s preseason finale that Rondo is “progressing well” and has begun to take some light contact in practice.

“He’ll continue to do a little bit more in practice,” Stevens said. “Did a little bit more (Tuesday). Anytime that it’s even close to a contact-esque drill that he’s been allowed to do, he has a nice-sized pad on his hand. Still not fully good to go, but certainly working that way.”

Rondo also joined the team for pregame warmups Wednesday without a pad on his surgically repaired hand. Stevens said Monday that there is “a possibility” the point guard will be ready to go in time for next Wednesday’s regular-season opener.
